Verses 1–2 – Greeting Paul, called as an apostle by the will of God , writes to the saints (set-apart ones) and the faithful in Christ. His opening prayer is that grace and peace —the twin gifts of the gospel—would rest upon them from the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Verse 3 – Praise to God Paul blesses God because He has already blessed believers with every spiritual blessing in Christ , secure in heavenly places. These blessings are eternal, not temporary, and flow only through union with Jesus. Verse 4 – Chosen in Love Before the foundation of the world, God chose us in Christ —not randomly, but in love. His purpose: that we would live holy, blameless lives before Him. Election isn’t just about salvation, but about transformation into Christlike holiness. Verse 5 – Adoption into God’s Family God predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ. Salvation is relational—we are not only forgiven, we are brought into God’s household as sons and daughters.
