The Scripture Behind the Name

Speak The Word Only was inspired by the words of the centurion in

Matthew 8:8 (KJV)
The centurion answered and said,
Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest
come under my roof: but speak the Word only, and my
servant shall be healed.

These words revealed a remarkable understanding of the authority of Jesus Christ and the power of His Word. 

The centurion understood authority. He knew that Jesus did not have to physically enter his house in order for his servant to be healed. He believed that if Jesus would simply speak the word, His word carried sufficient authority to accomplish what He commanded.

Jesus marveled at his faith.
That declaration-"Speak the Word only"- became the inspiration for the name of this Bible study blog.

Speak The Word Only is dedicated to the study, teaching, and understanding of the Word of God.
Our desire is not simply to read Scripture, but to study it carefully, understand it in context, and apply its truth to our lives.

Here you will find Bible teachings that examine Scripture chapter by chapter and verse- by-verse, allowing the Word itself to establish the foundation for what we believe and teach.
We believe that careful Bible study requires us to ask:
  • What does the Scripture say?
  • What does it mean in its biblical and historical context?
  • What does it reveal about God and His purpose?
  • How does this truth apply to the life of the believer today?
Our studies may include biblical context, word studies, historical and cultural background, cross-references, observation, interpretation, and practical application-all with Scripture remaining our primary authority. 

In His Image - Genesis Bible Study

One of the primary studies featured on Speak The Word Only is In His Image - Genesis Bible Study.
Genesis takes us back to the beginning. Before Israel became a nation, before the giving of the Law at Sinai, before kings and prophets, Scripture takes us to God's creation and reveals the beginning of His dealings with mankind. 

Though this study, we examine Genesis carefully-chapter by chapter, verse by verse-exploring creation, mankind made in the image of God, the entrance of sin, judgment and redemption, "the generations of the nations." Abraham and the covenant, and the unfolding purpose of God.
Our desire is to slow down and allow Scripture to speak.
