Introduction Genesis chapter 2 brings us closer to the creation account by focusing particularly on God's relationship with humanity. Genesis 1 gives the broad order of creation, while Genesis 2 focuses our attention upon the formation of man, the Garden of Eden, God's command, the formation of woman, and the establishment of marriage. The chapter reveals that humanity did not simply appear within creation. God personally formed the man, breathed life into him, prepared a dwelling place for him, gave him responsibility, established His command, and provided the woman who would correspond to him. Genesis 2 establishes foundational truths concerning life, worship, work, obedience, responsibility, relationship, marriage, and man's dependence upon God.
