Genesis Chapter 5 - The Generations of Adam and Enoch’s Walk With God | Genesis Bible Study

 Introduction Genesis 5 records the family line from Adam through Seth to Noah. At first glance, the chapter may appear to be only a list of names, ages, births, and deaths. Yet it carries an important theological message. God had created humanity in His image, but sin brought death into the human experience. The repeated words “and he died” confirm that the warning given in Eden was true. Nevertheless, God’s purpose continued from one generation to another. In the middle of the genealogy, one man breaks the repeated pattern: Enoch walked with God, and God took him. His testimony demonstrates that intimate fellowship with God was still possible in a fallen world. The chapter closes with the birth of Noah, whose name became connected with the hope of comfort from the toil produced by the cursed ground. Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam.
