Speak The Word Only

 Introduction Genesis 5 records the family line from Adam through Seth to Noah. At first glance, the chapter may appear to be only a list of names, ages, births, and deaths. Yet it carries an important theological message. God had created humanity in His image, but sin brought death into the human experience. The repeated words “and he died” confirm that the warning given in Eden was true. Nevertheless, God’s purpose continued from one generation to another. In the middle of the genealogy, one man breaks the repeated pattern: Enoch walked with God, and God took him. His testimony demonstrates that intimate fellowship with God was still possible in a fallen world.
