Sin had entered the world in Genesis 3; in Genesis 4, its destructive power spread into the first family. Cain and Abel both brought offerings to God, but only Abel and his offering were accepted. Instead of correcting his heart, Cain allowed anger and jealousy to grow. Although God warned him that sin was lying at the door, Cain refused to master it and murdered his brother.
