Welcome
Welcome to Speak The Word Only
The Holy Spirit Our Teacher
1 Corinthians 2:10-12 (KJV)"But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.For what man knoweth the things of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of GodNow we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
The things of God are spiritually discerned. Paul traches that God has revealed His truth by His spirit. The Holy Spirit searches the deep things of God and gives believers understanding of what God has freely given to us.
This does not mean that we disregard careful Bible study. The Holy Spirit does not lead us away from Scripture. He helps us understand the truth God has revealed in His Word.
For this reason, we approach Bible study prayerfully-reading Scripture in context, examining what is written, comparing Scripture with Scripture, and asking the Holy Spirit to give us understanding.
The Scripture Is Our Foundation
The Bible is our primary authority for what we believe and teach. Paul writes:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

Speak The Word Only
The name Speak the Word Only comes from the words of the centurion in Matthew 8:8:
Matthew 8:8 (KJV)
"The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed."
The centurion recognized the authority of Christ's Word. He understood that Jesus did not have to be physically present in his house. If Christ spoke the Word, that Word carried the authority necessary to accomplish what He said.
That truth expresses the heart behind this site. We desire to know the Word of God, understand it faithfully, and allow His Word to shape how we live

In His Image – Genesis Bible Study
Back to the Beginning — Chapter by Chapter, Verse by Verse
Genesis is more than the account of creation. It is the foundation upon which many of the great truths of Scripture are first revealed.
Before Israel became a nation, before the giving of the Law at Sinai, before the kings and the prophets, Scripture takes us back to the beginning—to God's creation, mankind made in His image, the entrance of sin, judgment, redemption, covenant, and the unfolding of God's purpose through generations.
In His Image – Genesis Bible Study is dedicated to slowing down and carefully examining the book of Genesis chapter by chapter and verse by verse.
Why Study Genesis?
Genesis means beginning or origin. Within its pages we encounter the beginning of many subjects that continue throughout the rest of Scripture.
We study Genesis to better understand:
Creation and God's original purpose
Mankind created in the image of God
The entrance and consequences of sin
Judgment and redemption
The generations following Adam
Noah and the Flood
The development of the nations
Babel and the scattering of mankind
Abraham and God's covenant promises
Isaac, Jacob, and the twelve sons of Israel
Joseph and Israel's entrance into Egypt
Genesis establishes foundations that help us understand what comes afterward.
How We Study
Our approach is not simply to read a chapter and move on.
We ask:
What does the Scripture actually say?
What is happening in the surrounding context?
What did the words mean to the original audience?
What historical and cultural information helps us understand the passage?
Where does Scripture explain or confirm Scripture?
What does the passage reveal about God and His purpose?
How should this truth affect the life of the believer today?
Our studies may include biblical context, word studies, historical and cultural background, cross-references, observation, interpretation, and practical application.
Scripture remains our primary authority.
Studying Genesis Chapter by Chapter
The Genesis Bible Study begins with Genesis Chapter 1 and continues through the book one chapter at a time.
We do not want to rush through familiar passages simply because we have heard them before.
Sometimes the passages we know best are the ones we have stopped examining carefully.
Our goal is to open the Bible, observe what is written, ask questions of the text, compare Scripture with Scripture, and grow in our understanding of God's Word.
Supplemental Genesis Studies
Some subjects in Genesis require a closer examination than can be covered in a single lesson.
For that reason, In His Image also includes supplemental studies that explore important people, places, events, genealogies, and biblical themes connected with Genesis.
These studies are designed to help the serious Bible student dig deeper while remaining anchored in Scripture.
