Genesis chapter 6 - The Fallen Angels- Mount Harmon

 Mount Hermon is a very significant mountain geographically.

It is:

• one of the tallest mountains in the region
• visible for great distances
• located near the northern boundary of ancient Israel

In the ancient world, high mountains were often associated with divine or heavenly encounters.

For example:

• Moses met God on Mount Sinai
• Elijah encountered God on Mount Horeb

Because Hermon is so prominent, ancient interpreters imagined it as a place where heavenly beings might descend.

 Hermon’s Symbolic Meaning

Mount Hermon later became known as a place connected with spiritual conflict.

Interestingly, the region around Hermon later included places such as Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus spoke about the gates of Hades (Matthew 16:18).

So the area gained a reputation in Jewish thought as a spiritually significant region.

The Main Lesson of the Story

Whether or not the exact location is historical, the story emphasizes a deeper message:

• rebellion against God brings judgment
• corruption spread across the earth before the Flood
• God preserved Noah as a righteous man

The focus of Scripture remains God’s justice and mercy, not the mountain itself.
