Hebrews 10: 21 - Having an High Priest Over the House of God
“And having an high priest over the house of God;” — Hebrews 10:21, KJV
This verse speaks of Jesus Christ as our great High Priest. Under the Old Covenant, the high priest represented Israel before God and entered the Most Holy Place with sacrificial blood. But those priests and sacrifices had to be repeated. Jesus established something far greater: He offered Himself once for sin and entered into the heavenly presence of God on our behalf (Hebrews 9:11–12, 24–26).
The expression “house of God” refers to God’s household—His people. Hebrews 3:6 says, “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we.” Jesus is therefore not merely a priest serving within God’s house; He is the Son who presides over it.
This is especially important in the context of Hebrews 10:19–22. Because we have “boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus” and because we have “an high priest over the house of God,” Scripture concludes:
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith...” — Hebrews 10:22
Personal Application
We do not approach God depending upon our own righteousness or spiritual accomplishments. Jesus Christ is our High Priest. He has provided the sacrifice, opened the way into God's presence, and represents His people before the Father.
Therefore, when we pray, worship, repent, or seek God in difficult circumstances, we can draw near in faith. Our confidence is not in ourselves—it is in Christ.
The sacrifice has been offered.
The way has been opened.
The veil has been passed.
Our High Priest is over the house of God.
Therefore—let us draw near.
