Genesis Chapter 1- The Sun- Moon- Stars | In His Image Genesis Study

 The Stars Moon and the Sun

Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: (KJV)

These lights refer to the sun, the moon, and the stars. The Hebrew word for "lights" is ma'orot - meaning light bearers, not just light itself, meaning God created physical objects that carry, holds, and shine light.

The sun and moon do not shine by accident - they shine because God assignes them purpose. Just like the lights, believers are light bearers (Matthew 5:14). We do not produce spiritual light; we reflect God's light

Four Major Purposes for the heavenly bodies and reveals deep biblical, prophetic, and theological truths.

*Purpose I

To Divide the Day from the Night. Light existed (Day 1), but there was no organized system. God codifies time, day, night, morning and evening. Creation moves from chaos to order. The physical separation of day and night reflects a moral truth.

*Purpose II

Let them be for signs

The Hebrew word "oth," means signals, markers, indicators, prophetic pointers, divine messages. god places the heavenly bodies as timeless signals. this does not mean astrology or pagan star-worship, it means creation itself points to God's glory Psalm 19:1, God's order, God's covenant times and heavenly signs connected to redemption.

*Signals

* Markers,

* Indicators,

*Prophetic Pointers,

*Divine messages. Re 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Numbers 24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

Just like the star at Jesus' birth (Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him).(KJV)

The Bible does not name the star directly but scripture gives enough detail for us to understand what it was and what it was not. the star the wise men (Magi) told Herod they called it 'His Star", meaning a star belonging to the Messiah. this means that it was prophetic, supernaturan, unique, and sent by God.

It Was Not A Normal Star

This star moved in a way no natural star can. this star appeared and then disappeared, it reappeared, and then went ahead of them, and then it stood still over the house where Jesus was

Matthew 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood

No planet, comet, or natural star can lead people, or move at walking speed, or stop at a single house. This star was not, Jupiter, a conjunction, a comet, or a nova. the movement was directional and intelligent.

It was a supernatural light - A shekinah glory. the descritpion matches exactly the type of light god used in the Old Testament. The pillar of fire guided Israel

Exodus 13:21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: (KJV)

The glory cloud stood over the tabernacle

Exodus 40:34 - 38 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

36 And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:

37 But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.

38 For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. (KJV)

God's presence appeared as light above the mercy seat

Leviticus 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. (KJV)

*In Idol Worship

Amos 5:26 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

*Babylon Worship

Acts 7:43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

1Corinthians 15:41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

2Peter 1:19 ¶ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Revelation 2:28 And I will give him the morning star.

Revelation 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

Revelation 8:11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Revelation 9:1 ¶ And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
