The Father Loveth the Son — John 3:35

John 3:35 is a short verse containing a profound revelation concerning the relationship between the Father and the Son and the authority given to Jesus Christ. The Greek text closely follows the KJV wording: the Father loves the Son and has given “all things” into His hand. Greek Bible

“The Father Loveth the Son”

The verse begins with relationship:

“The Father loveth the Son…”

Jesus is not merely presented as a prophet carrying a message from God. Throughout John's Gospel, He is uniquely identified as the Son, sent by the Father.

The Father's love for the Son is also emphasized elsewhere in John. Jesus later says:

“For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth…” — John 5:20 KJV

The Father-Son relationship therefore stands at the center of John's presentation of Christ.

“Hath Given All Things”

The statement becomes even stronger:

“and hath given all things…”

Christ's authority is not presented as something He seized for Himself. It is given by the Father.

This agrees with Jesus' declaration after His resurrection:

“Into His Hand”

In Scripture, something being placed “into the hand” of another communicates possession, authority, responsibility, or control.

Therefore, when John says the Father has given all things “into his hand,” we are being shown the extraordinary authority entrusted to the Son.

The next verse makes the significance personal:

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life…” — John 3:36 KJV

John moves directly from the authority of the Son to humanity's response to the Son.

The question is not merely, What do we think about Jesus?

The question becomes:

What have we done with the Son whom the Father has sent?

The Father and Son Relationship

John 3:35 also helps us understand that the Father and Son are not presented as rivals.

There is love, unity, mission, and divine purpose.

The Father loves the Son.

The Father sends the Son.

The Father gives all things into the Son's hand.

The Son reveals the Father.

And through the Son, eternal life is offered to those who believe.

Personal Application

John 3:35 gives believers strong reason to place their confidence in Jesus Christ.

If all things have been given into His hand, then our faith is not resting upon someone powerless or uncertain.

When circumstances appear beyond our control, they are not beyond Christ's authority.

When we cannot see what tomorrow holds, we can still trust the One into whose hand the Father has given all things.

Most importantly, this verse calls us to honor the Son. Jesus Christ is not merely one voice among many. He is the Son whom the Father loves, the One whom the Father sent, and the One into whose hand the Father has entrusted all things.
