Genesis chapter 6 - The Ministry of Jesus | Casting out Demons

 Now we move into something very important.

Jesus did not treat demons as metaphors.
He confronted them as real spiritual beings.

 Deliverance Was Central to His Ministry

When Jesus announced His mission, He quoted:

Book of Isaiah 61

Gospel of Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me… to proclaim liberty to the captives…”

Immediately after this declaration, He casts out a demon.

Deliverance was not secondary.
It was proof that the Kingdom had arrived.

First Recorded Exorcism

In:

Gospel of Mark 1:23–26

A man in the synagogue cries out:

“I know who You are — the Holy One of God!”

Notice:
• The demon recognizes Him.
• The demon speaks.
• Jesus commands with authority.
• No ritual. No incantation. Just authority.

And the people say:

“What is this? A new teaching with authority!”

His authority over spirits revealed His identity.

 Patterns in His Deliverance Ministry

We consistently see:

• Immediate obedience from demons
• Recognition of His divine authority
• Public astonishment
• Restoration of the person

He never struggled.
He never negotiated.
He commanded.

 The Gerasene Demoniac

Gospel of Mark 5

A man possessed by “Legion.”

Key observations:

• Supernatural strength
• Self-harm
• Social isolation
• Multiple spirits

Jesus sends them into swine.

This reveals:

• Demons seek embodiment
• They recognize judgment
• They fear torment

This scene echoes earlier discussions about disembodied spirits seeking rest.

 What Did Jesus Teach About Demons?

In:

Gospel of Matthew 12:28

“If I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.”

Deliverance = Kingdom invasion.

He describes Satan as:

• A strong man whose house is being plundered
• A kingdom being divided

Jesus’ ministry was spiritual warfare — but controlled and authoritative.

• Spiritual rebellion

If Genesis 6 represents boundary collapse and corruption —
Jesus represents boundary restoration and divine order reestablished.

 The Authority Transfer

“I give you authority… over all the power of the enemy.”

He delegates authority.

This signals a shift in redemptive history.

 What Were Demons?

The Bible does not fully explain their origin.

Possibilities discussed historically:

• Fallen angels
• Spirits of the Nephilim (1 Enoch view)
• Rebellious spiritual beings under Satan

But the New Testament focuses less on origin and more on authority over them.

 Why This Matters for “Days of Noah”

If the days of Noah involved:

• Spiritual corruption
• Demonic amplification of violence

Then Jesus casting out demons shows:

• The reversal has begun
• The strong man is being bound
• The Kingdom is reclaiming territory

 Final Insight

Jesus did not merely teach morality.

He confronted unseen oppression.

Every exorcism was a declaration:

The reign of darkness is ending.
