Genesis chapter 6 - Are Demons the Spirits of the Nephilim | Genesis Bible Study
The bodies of the Nephilim were destroyed. Their spirits remained.
Those spirits became evil spirits roaming the earth.
This explains why:
Demons seek embodiment (Mark 5).They wander in dry places (Matthew 12:43). They fear judgment but are not yet bound like certain angels.
Second Epistle of Peter 2:4 and Epistle of Jude 6
These speak of angels being bound. Notice the distinction:
Some angels are bound.
Demons roam freely.
That difference led many early believers to distinguish between fallen angels and roaming spirits.
The New Testament never clearly defines their origin — it focuses on Christ’s authority over them.
Oppression vs Possession
Scripture shows different levels of influence.

Characteristics:
Loss of control
Voice changes
Supernatural strength
Self-harm
Recognition of Jesus
Oppression
Gospel of Luke 13:11
A woman “bound by Satan” for 18 years. She was not screaming or violent. She was afflicted physically.
Oppression can mean:
Harassment
Physical affliction
Mental torment
External pressure
The Greek word often means “under power.” Not every spiritual struggle equals possession.
Deliverance Today
Jesus delegated authority:
Gospel of Luke 10:19
But the New Testament emphasizes balance. Deliverance is not:
Shouting rituals
Obsession with demons
Attribution of every problem to spirits
It is rooted in:
The authority of Christ
Submission to God
Resistance (James 4:7)
Holy living
The early church cast out demons, but their focus was always:
Repentance
Faith
Holiness
Deliverance follows the Kingdom.
Final Demonic Activity in Revelation
Book of Revelation
In Revelation 9 (Sixth Trumpet):
Bound angels are released.
Terrifying beings emerge.
Humanity refuses to repent of sorcery (pharmakeia), immorality, and violence.
Notice the echo:

Supernatural judgment
Revelation 16:
“Spirits of demons” gather nations to war.
The Bible begins with spiritual rebellion before the Flood. It ends with spiritual rebellion before final judgment.
Structural Pattern of Scripture
Genesis 6 → Spiritual corruption → Flood
Gospels → Spiritual confrontation → Kingdom invasion
Revelation → Spiritual escalation → Final judgment
Jesus stands in the middle of that arc. He is the reversal point.
The Core Message
The Bible does not sensationalize demons.
It reveals:
Evil is real.
Spiritual forces exist.
Christ has authority.
Final judgment is certain.
The focus is never fascination. The focus is sovereignty.
