I John 4:14 - The Father Sent the Son | Speak His Word Only

“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.” — 1 John 4:14 

First John 4:14 gives a concise declaration of the gospel: the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. John is not presenting speculation. He says, “we have seen and do testify.” As an apostolic witness, John testified concerning Jesus Christ and what God had revealed through Him.

“The Father Sent the Son”

Jesus did not merely appear as another religious teacher. John emphasizes His divine mission: the Father sent the Son.

This agrees with John 3:16–17, where God gives and sends His Son for the salvation of the world. Salvation therefore originates in the love and purpose of God.

The surrounding context makes this especially important:

“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son…” — 1 John 4:10 KJV

God's love took action.

“The Saviour of the World”

Calling Jesus “the Saviour of the world” shows that the gospel is not restricted to one nation, ethnicity, or social class. The saving work of Christ is proclaimed to the world.

This does not mean John teaches that every person is automatically saved regardless of faith. Just two verses later he writes:

“Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” — 1 John 4:15 KJV

Christ is the world's Saviour, and the gospel invitation extends beyond the boundaries of Israel to the nations.

Personal Application

First John 4:14 gives believers something definite to proclaim: Jesus Christ is the Son sent by the Father to save.

Our faith is therefore centered not merely upon what we can do for God, but upon what God has done for us through His Son.

When we speak about God's love, we should remember that biblical love is more than emotion. God demonstrated His love through action: He sent His Son.

And because we have received that love, the surrounding passage teaches that we should also love one another.
