Matthew 20:28 - A Ransom For Many | Speak His Word Only

“Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” — Matthew 20:28 KJV

Jesus revealed the very heart of His mission: He came not to be served, but to serve and willingly give His life for others. The word “ransom” carries the idea of a price paid to secure release. Humanity was held under the bondage and consequences of sin, a debt we could not resolve by our own righteousness or works.

Jesus gave His own life as the ransom. His death was not merely an example of sacrificial love; it was central to God's work of redemption. As Jesus later said:

“This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” — Matthew 26:28 KJV

The King became the servant. The sinless One gave Himself for sinners. Through His death and resurrection, Christ accomplished what mankind could never accomplish for itself.

Personal Application

Matthew 20:28 teaches us both redemption and service. Because Christ gave Himself for us, we belong to Him. And because our Lord came to serve rather than seek earthly greatness, His followers should also develop hearts willing to serve others.

Our salvation reminds us that we were purchased at a tremendous price. Therefore, our lives should bring honor to the One who gave His life a ransom for many.
