Barjesus A False Prophet

Speak His Word Only
Barnabas and Saul

And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:   A false prophet, a deceiver, one who pretended to have the divine authority to speak, a fortune teller.  Here he is called, "Barjesus", Bar is transleted, "son,"  son of Jesus or Joshua, he pretended to have the divine authority as the son of Jesus. He is a deceiver, trying to be something he is not, transforming himself into an angel of light.

Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.   But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

Elymas, the sorcerer  a magician, or fortune-teller; one who pretended to foretell future events, but he does not have the revelation knowledge of Jesus Christ to bring the deputy to the faith.  Sorcery can't bring you into the faith of Jesus Christ, it only leads you away from Christ, and this is what Elymas was trying to do with the deputy, lead him away from the faith. Why?  Elymas did not want to lose his high place with the deputy.

Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, and said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
